Taiwan Brands Bring Globally Trusted Lifestyle Technology to Indonesia

Taiwan’s Information and Communications Technology (ICT) brands bring quality lifestyle technology trusted by partners worldwide to consumers in Indonesia

Jakarta, Indonesia, November 21, 2011 –Starting as contract manufacturers for technology companies around the world, Taiwan has parlayed its expertise in manufacturing reliable, innovative and worthy products into creating global brands, including Acer, Asus, BenQ, HTC, MSI, D Link, Trend Micro and many more. Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), under the supervision of the Bureau of Foreign Trade (BOFT), Ministry of Economic Affairs, Taiwan, organizes the Taiwan Excellence Campaign since 2010, seeking to increase the awareness of Taiwan brands and excellent products available from Taiwan to enhance Indonesian consumers’ lifestyles. Innovation is the key component of the success of Taiwan brands. One recent example is Acer Ultrabook and Asus Zenbook, the latest mobile information access devices that combine the ease of use of tablets with the power of laptops. Acer Aspire S3-951 ultrabook and Aspire Z7871 all-in-one desktop were recently named International Consumer Electronic Show Innovations 2012 Design and Engineering Award Honorees. Taiwan’s HTC has blazed the field with innovations in smartphones. The company introduced nine new smartphones in the first half of 2011. One of the new models is HTC Thunderbolt, the world’s first 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) smartphone. The Thunderbolt adds another item to the company’s list of ‘world’s first’, which already includes the world’s first Android smartphone and the first WIMAX smartphone.

“Taiwan has a very robust technology industry. Our expertise in manufacturing coupled with our R&D focus has allowed us to bring the latest products at affordable price to consumers quickly. Through our Taiwan Excellence campaign, we hope to share with Indonesian consumer award winning Taiwan brands which have gained worldwide recognition as innovative, reliable, and worthy.” said TAITRA Jakarta Director James Chen.

Taiwan ranks 6th in the world on Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) Global Innovation Index 2009-2013, behind only Japan, Switzerland, Finland, Germany and the US. In 2010, Taiwan clinched more awards in the German iF design competition than any other Asian country, claiming 10 percent of all the trophies available. The first-ever joint convention of the world's three largest industrial design associations -- the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design, the International Council of Graphic Design Associations and the International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers , was held in Taipei last month, symbolizing global recognition of Taiwan strength in industrial, interior and graphic design.

The growth of the industry and the creation of global brands are driven by the development of human resource and infrastructures. Taiwan High Speed Rail links high-tech industrial parks along the eastern corridor of Taiwan, making rapid movement of people and ideas possible in the Silicon Valley of the East. A survey conducted by the National Science Council found that the number of researchers for every thousand employees in Taiwan was higher than that of the United States and behind only Finland and Japan.
